Activities of Daily Living (ADL)

Issue

The activities of daily living ADL are basic self care skills. Such as showering, dressing yourself, feeding yourself, going to the toilet. Through to the more advanced care skills such as doing your nails, makeup, shaving, and doing up your tie. Someone with Dementia struggles or can't do these.

What we do

For your loved one living with dementia we provide visual aids, laminated pictures. We may reorganise their wardrobe or bathroom to help them perform the ADL’s.

We can educate you on how  best to assist the person living with dementia in the most dignified way.

For example we provide strategies on how best to help them brush their teeth, holding the tooth brush with them rather than doing it for them. How to help them shower as we know that showering can be painful so we wrap a towel around them and then shower as this makes it less abrasive. Through to how to meet someone at their eye level.

We can teach you how to do this with dignity.

Outcome

You’ll learn how to assist your loved one with the basic and advanced self care skills. With a focus on helping them to be as independent as possible. And, where they do need assistance we’ll show you how to do this and maintain dignity of your loved one.
